We're Sway.ly, and this is our privacy guide designed for teens. This guide explains what information we collect when you use our Sway.ly app or website (https://www.sway.ly/), why we need this information, and how we keep it safe.
We are Say As Limited, and we created Sway.ly, a new tool designed with and for young people to make social media safer—without blocking content. We talked to over 1,400 kids and teens in the UK and USA, and they told us that misinformation and fake news, hate, and toxic content make them angry, anxious or overwhelmed. Sway.ly uses all that we’ve learnt from these young people and created an app and service that helps you take control of your feed so that what you see on social media is and feels better.
To use SWAY.LY, you need to be 13 years old and you’ll need to share some social media details, like your handle and, in some cases, your password, but your password is not directly shared with us and never stored . Our App will guide you through each stage of this process to ensure your privacy and security.
Sway.ly looks at what you see, like, reshare, subscribe, follow, favourite, browse and comment on, to create a scorecard of negative content you’re exposed to. If your feed has too much harmful content, we’ll let you know so you can take action.
We collect your personal information so we can…
We use your info because it helps us keep our promises to you and your family, give you the best Sway.ly experience, make our app and site work properly, improve what we offer, stay in touch with you when needed and follow the law. Grown-ups call this our “lawful basis”—that just means we have a good reason and permission to use your info.
We only keep your information as long as we need to. Sometimes, the law says we have to keep it longer. But we won’t keep it forever—we’ll only hold on to it for as long as we need to do our job properly.
As a young person, you have important rights when it comes to your personal data:
QUESTIONS? COMPLAINTS?
If you don't understand something, have questions or would like to exercise your rights, ask an adult to help you or contact our Data Protection Officer at support@sway.ly.
If you think we aren't following the rules about your information, you or your responsible adult (parent or guardian) can tell the authorities who make sure everyone follows privacy rules. In the UK, this authority is called the Information Commissioner's Office (or ICO for short). They help make sure your information is kept safe.
Sway.ly puts you in control—helping you scroll smarter, feel better, and make social media work for you.
